Human+ Analysis · Field Note · 2026

Stay-out inquiries are up approximately 90% year over year.

MaidProvider.ph is seeing the shift in real time — in and beyond Metro Manila. From 1 January to 9 August 2026, stay-out-related inquiries were approximately 90% higher than during 1 January to 9 August 2025. More families are asking for full-time household professionals who work the day, then go home. Space matters. Privacy matters. Proximity matters. And for household professionals, going home can mean remaining present in their own family life.

The finding

We see the movement before it becomes a statistic.

Household staffing is our daily work. Families tell us what they are looking for. Household professionals tell us what arrangements they are willing to accept. We see where searches become easier, where they become harder, and where preferences begin to change.

That gives MaidProvider.ph a first-hand view of what is changing on the ground. And in 2026, the direction is clear: stay-out-related inquiries are approximately 90% higher year over year. This is an internal MaidProvider.ph inquiry comparison, not a national market-growth estimate.

01 · What is happening now

This is no longer an occasional request.

MaidProvider.ph receives household staffing inquiries every day. Through 2026, full-time stay-out requests have become more frequent and more prominent in those conversations. The pattern is not confined to Metro Manila. We are also seeing it in Clark and Laguna, as well as in other highly urbanized, industrial and economic-zone markets outside Metro Manila, particularly where employment centers and residential neighborhoods sit close enough for daily household work to be practical.

The change is now large enough to quantify in our own records. From 1 January to 9 August 2026, MaidProvider.ph recorded approximately 90% more stay-out-related inquiries than from 1 January to 9 August 2025. Put another way, inquiry volume was close to twice last year's level. The comparison refers only to MaidProvider.ph inquiries.

The families asking for stay-out professionals are not necessarily asking for less help. Many still want a regular, full-time household professional. What they are reconsidering is the assumption that full-time household employment must also mean living inside the employer's home.

We believe that distinction matters. Full-time describes the work. Stay-out describes where the professional goes after the workday.

02 · Operations signal

The increase is clustering around specific kinds of places.

According to Michelle Saraza, Operations Director of MaidProvider.ph, the roughly 90% year-over-year increase is especially visible in two kinds of markets: affluent household clusters in highly urbanized areas, and fast-growing employment and economic-zone corridors.

In Metro Manila, MaidProvider.ph is seeing the pattern among affluent households in Makati and BGC, where privacy and limited residential space are often part of the hiring conversation.

Outside Metro Manila, the operations team is seeing the same demand in Clark and Pampanga, the Subic Bay Freeport area, and across CALABARZON. In Laguna, recurring inquiry clusters include households around Laguna Technopark and Mamplasan in Biñan.

These locations are not presented as a market ranking or a statistical regional survey. They are places currently appearing repeatedly in MaidProvider.ph's own client inquiries and matching work.

03 · Why demand is accelerating

The reasons we hear are practical, personal and increasingly consistent.

There is rarely one reason. Across these markets, four themes appear repeatedly in our client conversations.

01

Less spare space

Many urban households tell us they want regular help but do not have, or do not want to dedicate, permanent living space for another resident. Stay-out work separates the need for help from the need for staff accommodation. Nationally, PSA reports that average household size fell from 4.1 persons in 2020 to 3.8 in 2024, continuing a decline seen since 2010. That statistic does not measure home floor area; it is demographic context, not proof of the space explanation we hear from clients.

02

More value placed on privacy

Among the households speaking with us, privacy is increasingly an explicit preference. Couples, younger households and new families often want support during the day while keeping evenings and private family space to themselves.

03

Household professionals want a life after work

For some professionals, stay-out work means being able to return home, tend to their own children, spend time with family, manage their own household and maintain a clearer boundary between employment and personal life.

04

Proximity makes it possible

The model works best when home and workplace are close. A difficult cross-city commute can erase the benefit. That is why geography is becoming an important part of stay-out matching.

04 · Why this can be good for household professionals

A household professional can care for another home without disappearing from her own.

This may be the most important part of the shift.

Live-in household work can be the right arrangement for some professionals and some families. But it also means that the worker's place of employment is her place of residence. The boundaries between working time, personal time and availability can become harder to maintain.

With a workable stay-out arrangement, a household professional can finish the workday and go home. She can see her children. She can tend to her own family. She can be present for a partner or parent. She can sleep in her own home and maintain routines that belong to her rather than to her employer.

That does not make every stay-out job automatically better. Long commutes, informal arrangements or unrealistic working hours can simply move the burden somewhere else. But when the workplace is nearby, the hours are clear and the employment is properly protected, stay-out work can offer something meaningful: more independence without giving up regular employment.

05 · The public data gives the shift context

Live-out work is established. What we are seeing is a new intensity of demand.

The idea of a live-out kasambahay is not new. Government data shows that live-out domestic work has long been part of the Philippine labor market. That is important because it prevents a current demand shift from being mistaken for the invention of a new category of work.

The contrast is worth watching in Metro Manila. The 2019 DOLE–PSA survey found 72% of kasambahays nationally were live-out, while DOLE's January 2026 NCR wage-order release estimates that 62% of covered domestic workers in NCR are live-in. These are different datasets from different years and should not be read as a direct time series. But the 2026 NCR figure shows that live-in work remains the majority arrangement in the capital, which makes an accelerating stay-out demand signal in MaidProvider.ph's current NCR inquiries especially notable.

Outside NCR, the economic geography also matters. PSA describes CALABARZON as the country's only predominantly industrial region, with Laguna, Cavite and Batangas among the leading contributors to national industrial output. Central Luzon likewise includes large provincial and highly urbanized city economies with significant industrial activity.

These public statistics do not measure stay-out household hiring. They provide context for why the same work-and-commute model can emerge outside Metro Manila in places where jobs, housing, industrial estates, business districts and transport networks increasingly converge in the same corridors.

The survey was conducted in 2019 and released in 2020, covering about 1.4 million kasambahays.

06 · A bigger labor story

Domestic work is work. Stay-out should not mean informal.

In a June 2026 op-ed, Khalid Hassan, Director of the ILO Country Office for the Philippines, makes an important point: progress has been real, but gaps remain, and live-out domestic workers can still fall outside formal protection mechanisms.

That is why Human+ does not treat stay-out simply as a lifestyle trend. If demand continues to grow, the employment structure has to grow with it. Written terms, proper benefits, clear working hours, legal wages, rest and realistic travel expectations all remain important.

In NCR, Wage Order No. NCR-DW-06 sets the monthly minimum wage for covered domestic workers at ₱7,800 effective 7 February 2026. The living arrangement does not erase the employment relationship or the protections attached to it.

07 · What this changes in matching

For stay-out hiring, geography becomes part of suitability.

A household can find an excellent professional and still have a poor match if the commute is unsustainable. The farther the trip, the more vulnerable the arrangement becomes to traffic, transport cost, early reporting times and late finishes.

That changes the logic of recruitment. Skills, experience, responsibilities and expectations still matter. But stay-out hiring adds another question: does this professional live close enough for this job to work every day?

In practical terms, household staffing may become more local. Makati households may increasingly favor professionals already living within practical reach of Makati. The same logic applies to BGC, Pasay, Quezon City and Alabang. In regional hubs such as Clark and Laguna, a professional who lives within the surrounding city, municipality or province can be a materially stronger stay-out match than someone facing a long inter-city commute.

08 · Is stay-out better than stay-in?

Not automatically. Choice is the point.

Some household professionals prefer stay-in employment. Some families genuinely need it. Some jobs involve schedules or care responsibilities that make a live-in arrangement more practical.

Human+ is not arguing that one model should replace the other. The more important development is that households and household professionals are increasingly treating the living arrangement as something to decide rather than something to assume. That sits alongside another 2026 signal we are tracking: the tightening market for experienced household professionals.

When both sides have a real choice, household employment becomes more responsive to the lives of the people doing the work as well as the needs of the people receiving it.

Human+ FAQ

The stay-out shift, explained.

What is a full-time stay-out household professional?

A household professional who works regularly or full time for a household but returns to her own residence after the workday. “Stay-out” describes the living arrangement; it does not automatically mean part-time work.

How much has MaidProvider.ph's stay-out demand increased?

MaidProvider.ph's internal inquiry records show approximately 90% more stay-out-related inquiries from 1 January to 9 August 2026 than from 1 January to 9 August 2025. This is a first-party business comparison and should not be interpreted as a 90% increase in the Philippine household staffing market.

Where is MaidProvider.ph seeing stay-out demand?

MaidProvider.ph is observing accelerating demand in its own 2026 client inquiries and matching conversations in Makati and BGC; Clark and Pampanga; the Subic Bay Freeport area; and CALABARZON, including recurring Laguna inquiries around Laguna Technopark and Mamplasan in Biñan. This is qualitative industry field evidence, not a nationally representative government growth statistic.

Why are more families asking for stay-out arrangements?

In MaidProvider.ph client conversations, recurring reasons include limited spare living space, a stronger preference for household privacy, and the availability of professionals who live close enough to commute daily.

Why can stay-out work be good for household professionals?

When the commute and working hours are reasonable, a stay-out arrangement can allow a household professional to return to her own home after work, spend time with children and family, manage her own household and maintain clearer boundaries between work and personal life.

Is stay-out always better than stay-in?

No. The better arrangement depends on the role, schedule, commute, worker preference, family needs and responsibilities. The important principle is that the arrangement should be understood, workable and freely agreed.

What is the 2026 NCR minimum wage for a kasambahay?

Under Wage Order No. NCR-DW-06, the monthly minimum wage for covered domestic workers in NCR is ₱7,800 effective 7 February 2026.
